An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) is an animal that provides companionship and comfort to a person who has a qualifying medical, mental, or chronic health condition that rises to the level of disability, and has been documented by a licensed health-care provider. These animals must remain in the student's designated housing assignment and are not granted the right of public access.
A Service Animal is defined as a dog or miniature horse that is specifically trained to do work or perform a task directly related to a person's disability, including physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Service Animals are granted public access and must remain under the control of the handler at all times.
